Our Seanie turned 3 and boy, was he looking forward to his birthday. For months, he would ask when his birthday was and finally his special day arrived. We celebrated it with family in Fairfield and then went swimming at a nearby water park. Sean was beaming all day and we have never seen him happier. Even his teacher noticed the next day how content he was. It really is sad for us (especially for me) to see him grow up so fast. At least with Elise, we felt that she retained some of that "baby" inside of her but Sean is growing in leaps and bounds both psychologically, intellectually, and emotionally. He understands way more than we realize and his language skills surprise us all the time. Sean recently transferred to Elise's preschool in Redwood City so not only is pickup and drop off easier but Sean gets to mingle with the older kids and no doubt is absorbing some of their lessons. And, what does he love? He loves cars, trucks, and trains. He's usually holding a car in one hand at all times and no matter what we're doing he won't let them go. Whether he's eating, bathing, or sleeping, his fingers are curled around a shiny little car. Another favorite of his are books. He loves being read to and usually he'll fixate on one book that he'll insist on reading over and over again until he memorizes the pages. With food, he has his favorites and right now it's anything chocolate-flavored, spaghetti, Peking-style spareribs, yellow string beans, seaweed, peaches, and cherries.
After some erratic progress, Sean is fully potty-trained. One day he's pooping in his pants (yuck!) and the next day he is running to the can. It was like a light turned on in his head and he's never looked back since. We still have to accompany him to the bathroom because he's not exactly that adept at keeping his pee inside the toilet.
As a big brother, he is terrific with Ava. He loves to kiss her and wants to hold her by himself all the time. We tried that once and it wasn't such a good idea because he practically tossed her aside when he was done. He even lets her play with his precious "bear bear" which is generally off limits to Elise. It will be interesting to see how his relationship develops with each of his sisters since he's both an older and younger brother.
While the terrible twos are over, we look back and realize it wasn't terrible at all. Sean never had the horrible tantrums that many kids go through. Usually they come and go very quickly and it doesn't happen very often. He even apologizes without being prompted when it's over.
At his doctor's visit, we weren't surprised to find out how small he still is.
His stats:
Height: 35.5 inches (9 percentile)
Weight: 28 lbs. (15 percentile)
