Summer at the PJCC

Our whole summer has been one big blur. We stayed local and tried to make the most of the incredible weather we've been having. Elise is really enjoying summer camp at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center. They have a top notch program and you can see it in her face when I pick her up after school. The napping-at-school worry was much ado about nothing. I was worried she wouldn't sleep, the other kids would be too disruptive, and it would screw up her weekend naps. Well, Elise is usually the first to go down and the last to wake up. She enjoys sleeping with the other kids and proudly points out her sleep mat. They have great teachers and one teacher even keeps a pet snake in the classroom and lets it crawl around the floor (way too creepy for me) and Fridays are feeding days - they feed it frozen mice. Ugh. The best part about camp is that they take her swimming three days a week. With certified instructors, they have taught her how to stick her face in the water and dive for toys. She can back float (sort of) with some help but she's much more comfortable in the water. Summer camp ends in a couple of weeks and with a short hiatus, she returns in the fall to Centennial Montessori. We think the two schools balance each other nicely and next year she will definitely return for another fun-filled summer.
Elise during the first few sessions. She's sitting on the top step watching at first while the other kids are already in the water. She had be coaxed in but eventually got over her fear.
A little hard to see but she's floating on her back with help from the swim instructor.
